Rockford Mich., Feby. 3d 1881 James H. Wilbur US. I Agt. Dr Sir: Yours of 31st last from the Capital just recd. I rember well the incident in regard to the houses on the reservation, which you mention; I was informed by the Physician that your report of the number of houses was overstated: and to satisfy myself on that point I drove to the Simcoe Valley, and counted the houses in sight from the road: and subsequently counted those in sight from the road, in driving to the lower extreme of the reservation. In all, I counted something over 100 houses; aside from Mills , Agcy buildings, and farms. My report made from Lewiston soon after leaving the reservation, will show my views on all points at your agency. The report is on file in the Indian Office, and may seen by calling for it. It is surprizing to me how many erroneous statements are made by Inspectors and other temporary visitors at Agencies. Mr P. should have made a count, of the houses, before he falsified your report, and shown you his count So as to you an oportunity for verification. Trusting you will experience no serious annoyance from this matter, and with the highest confidence in your ability and integrity as an Indian Agt. I remain Yours sincerely E.C. Watkins
