St. Onge To the Catholic Priest Attanum Mission Sir: A communication has been received by me from the Settlers upon the Attanum and vicinity numerously signed Complaining of the indians for keeping large bands of horses on and about the Mission Claim held by you demanding of me as agent to see that Said horses are removed and kept on the Reserve. The Complaint of the settlers is well founded and to prevent that difficulty and others growing out of your gathering the indians at your place I have kindly, but firmly to say to you, from and after this date the indians must not be gathered by you Sunday or week days, and should they from your previous instructions volunteer to gather, you will dismiss and desperse them. Any violation of the above instructions will subject you to embarrassment as interfering in the management of the indians in promoting peace between the whites and Indians. Yours truly James H.
