Fort Simcoe W.T. April 21. 1869 Rev. L.N. St Onge Sir: a letter from you bearing the above date in relation to a pistol is before me. In your letter you say that an Indian by the name of Piel had been trying to purchase a pistol of you and to give you a yearling Steer or heifer in payment. That you refused to trade it with him until he should obtain permission of me as agent. Now if this be a true version of the matter, it remains a mystery to me how the indian should be put in possession of the pistol to bring it to the Station for repairs as his There Seems to be Something in the transaction that does not bear the light I Shall therefore retain the pistol until I am persuaded there has been, and is now, no deception practiced Yours truly James H Wilbur U.S. Indian Agent Letter from L.M.
