Germantown Tennessee August the 16th 1863 Dear Eliza I thought I would do as I prommist I would and write on Sunday/ I looked for a letter from you this morning but got non/ I supose you have heard of the news before this time in my last letter I worte on the 14th the wounted are giting along very well so fare as our boys went out and burnd out some of the citycens at Richway and I beleaf have orders to leave our lines what I think ought long ago have bin done, I feal better than I dit when you was here/ I have had the diarea for two days and now it is better again and since my head and ears dont truble me any I can hear all right again inside left but I feal week but I think I shel son get over that for you know we live at head Quarters I feal very lonsom since you have gone away/ I would like to come home and see the children/ I hope you found them all well/ I long to here from you all and I hope I shel here of William doing better then what he has bin doing we don t heare any thing of the pay master yet when he is going to com but I hope he will com soon for I sopose you nead som muny Capt Lockwood John H.? com back with me to Germantown and went home with Dr. Mercer and I have moved over in the shop/ I will sent you som more pictures as soon as Mathews gets more of them printed I cant thin of any thin more to write at pressent/ I will try and write more the next ttime inside-right I hope I shel here from you soon and often/ how you are all eting along and I would like to here from William as he can write/ I would also like to here from Frank and Lizza if thay can write any/ if not thay can get som one to write for them/ so no more at pressent your affectionate Husband J.
