WiUm amp;tttt Mnifrtzmty IHeMtatimt In the history of the State of Oregon, there has seldom been a man whose stature could surpass that of Charles E. McCulloch lawyer, scholar, philanthropist, musician, civic worker, and athlete. McCulloch, the son of a Methodist minister, was born in Illinois in 1882. He received his undergraduate work at Ohio Wesleyan and his LL.D. at Illinois Wesleyan, then passed the bar in 1907. The following year, he was prompted to go west, and he began his practice of law in Portland. In 1945, McCulloch started what was to be a 12- year term as President of the Willamette University Board of Trustees. During this era of service, which was climaxed in 1957, when Willamette presented him with the honorary degree of Doctor of Humanities, McCulloch became a great motivating force in the strengthening and growth of our university. He was the donor of numerous gifts and services to Willamette, the most notable of which was the school x27;s modern athletic plant at Bush Park, which was built in 1950 and designated McCulloch Stadium. His life, laden with the services of many years, came to a close on January 17, 1961. Thus, it is only appropriate that We, the Class of 1964, Gratefully Dedicate This Fifty-third Annual Freshman Glee to the Memory of Charles Eddy McCulloch who adopted Willamette as a second quot;Alma Mater. quot; tamtam Freshman Class President x27;s Report....
