Memphis Tennessee December the 6th 1863 Dear Eliza I have bin long looking for a letter from you but in vain I have not receivd a letter from you since we first came here and that was an old one dated Oct 19th and one I receivd yet at Little Rock dated Nov the 2nd and then I expected Mr. Brewer would bring me a letter but he said you had just sent one by mail and I have not got that yet So you must not blame me for not writing sooner for I have bin looking for a letter before I would write and to day I thaought I would back side - write as won as you get this and remember me and Nick to the Col and Frank and say to them to come back soon for one or both are neadet here very much inside-left write anyhow and sent it by Spiro Simon and a comfort for lizza it was made a pressent to me and I dit not want to were it and I thaught it would be so nice for her I wish I could sent something for the Boys but I could not get any thing for them to day for it is Sunday and evry thing is closed up and I knew nothing of Spiros going home untill about the time I went to writing this letter. I sent you fourty dollers by Dr. Medcalf which I sopose you got all right I had not time to write when he went for I knew nothing of his going tunill I saw him going and I just handet inside-right him the muny and he said he would hand it to Col Pease I am injoing furstrade health as good as I ever dit in my life and have very good quarters which is in a house near where the Regement is camped where our mess is Captain Lockwood and I room togather and eate in the same room and I have my shop close by I wish you could be here and se the fun we have sometimes John Daly and Brewer bords with us now Brewer has bin quite unwell -he- since he com be has the piles him and I sleep togather we have a good bet to sleep in so no more at pressent your affectionate husband J.
