Attanam Apr. 21st 1869 Rev. Sir: Piel, the Indian who wan ted to give me a calf for my pistol, tells me that you do not want to give him permission to do so, and you did not wish to trust him to take it back to me. That Indian has proved strong- headed last year about a trade that he made for a horse, and knowing that I told him expressly not to consider the bargain done before you allowed him to do it, and accordingly did not take the calf. Did you keep my pistol because he did not prove submissive, in spite of my recommendation, or did he mislead it. If you have entrusted him with it, please let me know: if it is in your Care, let the bearer bring it back to me and oblige Your servant L.N. St Onge Priest
