Memphis Tennessee January 22nd 1864 Deare Eliza I receivd your letter of the 17th to day and was very glad to here from you for I have bin looking for a letter for som time we are having a very buisy time of it just now we have marching orders to leave for Vigsburg next Sunday morning and from their I know not where but we will nto stay thair the supposioion is that we will go to Montgomery Allalama or to Moble the Trups are here but two or three Regements just enough to take care of the forts I would like very much to com home before we went about her when he comes home I know nothing more to write at pressent of any importence So I will close hoping this may find you all in good health as this leaves me at pressent and that God may bring us all safly togather again in his own good time, give my love to Margrat and her Husband and her that I wish that boy of hers health and prosperity and that he may live to be an old man and a good Soldiert if it should b nessesary tell her I would write to her but I have not time just now I will try to write as soon as I can your affectionate husband J. Burggraf inside left any where elce but it could not be don I sent a furlough off to have it singht on the 15th but it has not returned yet and now as we have marching orders I will not get it so I will have to go along and perhaps not get home till my time is out but I sopose it is all for the best the Lord will take care of us all if we only will trust in him I wish Col Pease was here to go will us for we will nead him very much on this trip I will have to sent some of my clothes and tools home for I can not take them with me Mr Brewer will start home as soon as the Regement ge-s-ts away from here and I will sent some muny with him we expect to get pay tomorrow inside right a large porsion of our Regement has reinlisted again as veterns but you nead not have any fears of my going in again but I hope this war will not last much longer and we shel live in peace once more I am sorry I cant com home for I want to see you all very much but thair is no use to talk about that now but trust to God to bring us all togather again, Lucindy Heaghes is here in camp she came here about a week ago and I think by all appearance she has got to be a very hard case she is running round with the boys a greadele perticuarly at night I think her Father aught to do somthing to get her away from here or home but I dont think she will doo any good any more any where Mr Brewer can tell you all
