Goldendale W.T. January 3d 1883 Hon. H. Price Commissioner of Indian Affairs Washington D.C. Sir, I have the honor to inform you that Since I left the Yakama Agency I have been living at this place. The Department accounts with the Close of the Quarter ending Sept 30th have been Sent to your office. I am anxious to know if there are any exceptions taken to Said papers, that I may answer them. Please do me the favor to have them examined at your Earliest Convenience, and Send me the result. When Col Gardiner (Inspector) was at the Agency he requested Some Explenations to the Department before My accounts were past. I gave Explenations and Said if these given were not Sufficient I would go into a Most detailed account. I have Not heard whether the Explenations given were Satisfactory. Will you Please learn from the accounting Officer having Charge of My papers how the accounts Stand: and if further Explenations are required on what particular points and give me the Needed information. I am anxious to Close up My accounts as Soon as any way Convenient with the Department. I do not desire to Engage in any permanent work, until the Settlement is Complete. I am Sir Your Obedient Servant, James H. Wilbur Late U.S. Indian Agent.
