Sept 24/61    Camp Douglas Chicago    Dear Mother I received your letter  a few minutes ago I just come   off of guard I began to you  was not agoing to write to me  I had mad up my mind if  you did not I would not  write any more Ed went   to Kankakee the next day  after he left was here I have not  heard from him since he did  not enlist the Cornol said  he could not see well enough  Yesterday Len and Alice Harvey  and her Cousin was here Frank  Bennett was on Duty and he  stayed on the Camp ground
