Camp Bathel Tennesee August 19th 1862 Dear Eliza Mr. Brease was here and so I thaught I would send you some muny by him/ we got Pait off yesterday/ I sent you 15 dollars is all I can spare this time/ I only drawed 26 dollars and then I had Borrowed 6 dollars wich I have to Pay back this time/ that will leaf me with 5 dollars to keep till I draw again/ I got a pair of Boots and pait 5 dollars for them out of the 6 that I borrowed/ next month will be time for us to draw again for another two months/ Mr. Pease I sopose is not going to pay me any thing more extry/ he is not allowed to ot keep me any longer/ thair is none of the Officers allowed to keep any inlisted Soldiers any more/ thay have to imploy negrows for survents and I also sent you some blankeds 2 white ones/ I have bought pait 5 dollers for them and the other one I have found/ I was in hobes that I could come home after pay day but it is all noct in head/ thair is no giting away now/ Mr Pease says he tried to get me of but could doo nothing Mr. Brease can tell you how i look/ I am well and giting fat on geen corn and Peachis and I hope this may find you the same Your Affectionate Husband J.
