Steamer Fort Wain 10 miles above Fort Henry March 9th 1862 Dear Eliz I sopose you would like to to here from me once more/ I will write as often as I have an opportunity/ we are laying on the River wating for the fleet to get redy to go up the Tennesee River/ thair is some 70 steamboats to go to gather and 1, 000 men on each boat/ from what I can lern we are to go up into Allabama somewhere to give the sesash fits for thay say thay are purty plenty up thair/ I hope we will have good luck so I can come home by next June/ I dont think any of us will come home till the war is over and the thing is settled/ I have bin quite unwell ever since we got in to For Donnelson/ I had the dierea but we are on bord of the boat we are all giting better of it/ the men nearly all had it/ we have a great time here where thair is so many men to gether/ but I would rather come home and spand a few days with you at home/ but God knows what is best for us and if it is his will we shall all meet again in that social family sircle/ and I hope he may keep us all from sickniss and harm/ and I hope this may find you all in good health as this leaves me at present/ when want to write me any letters direct them to Lutennent Col Pease up Tennesee River and I will get them/ I would lik to here from you very much/ I have only got one letter from you and that was the one that Dayly brought me/ I think yuou could write a little oftener if you would try/ I know nothing more to write at present/ when I come home I can tell you some long yarns/ your affectionate Husband J.G.
