Camp Bathel Tennesee August 23rd 1862 Dear Eliza I receivd your letter last evning and I was very glad to get a letter from you once more and I am glad that you are giting along so well and I hope that God will keep you in Health/ I have not bin very well for two or three days/ I had the dieree but it is better now again/ at pressent Mr Sanders has come here and I was very glad to see him/ he will go to Jackson in a day or two to the 31st Richmond in the Sutter business/ you must have a very buissy time in Centralia while thair is somany trups thair and I am very sorry that you have so much truble with the Boys/ I should have thaught that thay would ge good Boys and obay and doo as much as thay could for you while I am away/ how I wish I could come home and talk to them and how bad I feal about it/ I hope thay will try and doo better while I am away/ I would like very much to see that fat little Girl you have at home and I hope that Lizy will try hard to take of her for you Captain Cheney James W. has just gone up to Centralia and Vandalia on business/ he went of so suten that I had not time to write a letter to send by him or I would have send by him/ if you go to Mrs Pease you can find out when he returns then you can sent a letter by him or see him and talk with him/ Tree Wiggins has run away and gone home and some others and the Captain has gone to errest them and bring them back/ I send you a letter with 15 dollars of muny in it by Mr. Brease that was heare a few days/ he went a way on the 19th and 3 Blankeds I sent by him/ he said he would go in to Centraliz in a few days and take those things to you/ If you can get my watch fixt and sent it by the Captain when he comes I would like it/ I nead it very much when on gard/ I could safe amany ours rest by it/ give my love to Margret/ no more at pressent Your Affectionate Husband J.
