January 14th, 1881 Rev James H Wilbur Washington DC Dear Brother Inspector Pollock left us yesterday in company with Mr Miller for the Dalles. Miller goes out to meet his brother who telegraphed him to come, and he thinks wants him to come to Colfax to go into business with him. If such should be the case Miller will leave us before long, and I shall have to find some one to take his place till you return. We will arrange so that all will go on as usual till your wishes are known. John Kuykendall hurt himself very badly, a few days ago. He was carrying a heavy load of wood, and slipped on the ice, fell backward, and the wood coming on his chest hurt him severely is now better and I hope will be able to be about his business in a few days. Della Kuykendall has the typhoid fever is quite sick we are taking every precaution to keep it from the School Snow fell again last night about 5 inches, it will be terrible on our cattle. Miller amp; Pollock went yesterday to Jack Morgans and expected to-day to go to the Summit. I shall not feel easy till I know that the Inspector has reached the Dalles, for I cannot guess what new thing he may be after. I send a requisition for some blank books One is needed at the Grist Mill the Shops and Saw Mill and farmer We want alo one broad record Book to keep the descriptive statement of Employees I will make out a statement of the points in my affidavit to the Inspector which I think will be used against you and of what my impression is, of the explanation The Doctor has a record of all the doings and sayings of the Inspector while here which if necessary can be used against him with great effect The Doctor and myself will prepare a statement and send you either by this mail or the next. I have no doubt, but the Master whom you have served so long will take care of you, and I pray that conspiracy and dark, serpentine ways which may be used for your destruction may recoil with tenfold force on the heads of those using them All desire to be affection- ately remembered to you and Mrs Wilbur Very Truly Yours JH Fairchild
