Mississippi Tuesday May 27, 1862 Dear Mother I received your letter this forenoon which was dated May 21 I was very glad to hear from you the letters had one from Sarah Bradly and one from Hannah the envelop was so full I thought there was one in it from Mary Aimee but come to open it I found there was none when I received the letter I was in line of battle we was called Page 2 up this morning at 4 oclock and we have been in line ever since we stacked our arms and sat down with all our things on and are not allowed to take them off we have our haversacks with two days rations and our canteens filled with water and one hundred rowns of -------- a piece and we are here waiting for an order I do not think my letters go through very regular because I write every day or two these had been about a week I have written every day I do not see why you did not get that money may be by the time I get your next letter Page 3 you will get it I sent 20 the first time and 25 the next I sent the first the first day of May and the last the 20 of May if you get it let me know if Hannah wants any more let her have it as for me getting a discharge that could not be done there is boys here that was wounded in our last skirmish that ought to go home if any boddy but they cannot get home it is so far from the river that it would hurt them getting them there last they were running there --- all night in Corinth we could hear them as plain as though they was not half Page 4 a mile off I think they are leaving Corinth very fast or getting reinforcements very fast and we cannot --- which we have to sleep with our accoutriments all on so if we should be called up in a hurry we would not be more than a weak getting out your letters come here very regular but I think mine do not go regular because I answer one it makes no difference if I have just written I have answered every one that Mary Aimee has written and am waiting for an answer give my love to her and tell her to write when she get an answer from me or not because I answer every letter she writes
