June 13th, 1883. Rev James H Wilbur Goldendale WT My Dear Brother I am glad to be able to send you what I trust may prove the last answers to Suspensions of your accounts You will see the reply I make to the first suspen- sion of Medical Returns If you remember the facts, or can make any answer that will enable them to trace all the property back to the source whence it came, it will be sufficient, and you can make it on a separate sheet of paper endorsing it answer to Suspension no 1 Medical Returns amp;c Otherwise, I fear you will have to get Carter, or some one in Washington to look it up from files of your papers in Indian Office I can find nothing here to help you The second sus- pension (23198 ft Lumber), would all have been straitened up before, but the Prop Returns and Abstracts for 2d Qr 1878 said 4800 feet Manufactured, and 39782 issued and expended, and I looked no further but now on looking over all the Qrs papers I found 100000 shingles made 68000 ft logs expended and the voucher called for 59,782 issued and expended, which had been copied to Abst 39,780. Read Original copy of these answers they are substantially alike but wording sometimes varies Of course any alterations you think necessary you will make. There was no way of accounting for this 23198 feet lumber but by affidavit. I hope you can make a satisfactory reply to the Medical Suspension What they want, is to trace all the property up to the vendor, or person from whom received, and unfortunately the very document we want is not forthcoming I should not wonder if it had been sent to Washington in answer to a former suspension--over all are well My wife unites in love to Sister Wilbur and yourself I am glad to see Bro Dickerson is likely to recover Please let me hear from you Respectfully Yours JH Fairfield Please write the letter of transmittal
