Fort Dounelson Feb 26 1862 Dear Eliz I heard from you yesterday/ Mr John Daly came to me and brought me a letter from you and you don t know how glad I was to here from you once more/ but I was sorry to here that you was not well/ I have not bin very well for several days/ I had the dieriea but I am better again/ Thair is not scarsley a man in camp that has not bin trubled with it/ I think it must be the change of water/ but I don t think we will be here very long/ I wish you could came and see me kook once/ you would thint I was a good house kepber and I sopose you would like to bord with us/ I bake cake and buiscut every day and the curnel says he would not know what to do if it was not for me/ I make his bet for him and sleep with him to keep him warm/ Col Pease send som coffe home and he says for you to go and get what coffe you wanted thair/ it is better then you can get in Centralia/ Mrs Pease will way it out to you as much as you want of it and keep an account of it/ I do not know much to write just now/ Cannot get much chance to hear much news/ I would like to come home and see you all but God knows what is best for us/ If it is his will we shall all meet together again before long/ I dont think this war will last long/ we must all hope for the best/ I will send some little Cessesh things home to the children which will please them and tell them they much obey you and be good children/ no more at present/ your affectionate Husband J.G.
