November 12th, 1883 Rev James H Wilbur  Late US Indian Agent  Walla Walla WT My Dear Brother  The final statement from Auditor and 2d Controller has just come to hand    They suspend    Payment to  C B Stone in 2d Qr 1881   725.60         Jim Swail 1 steer      25.00         Wm Olney     hauled Lumber   102.58         Columbus     saw Logs      16.81         Charley Blinn     hauled Lumber 62.56         Geo Waters             75.46         McFarland  amp; French    177.65        1185.66 and several small items   in all   
        bringing in a balance of  1236.01 against you     Of course they have got to allow all the items I have named, but it will require some time to fix up all of them, as the answers to former Suspensions must be carefully looked over, that there may be no discrepancy in our answers   The point is    had you better make up a plain Statement of the facts, and send it to some good man in Washington to settle it up?   or go yourself? or send the answers and trust to writing?  I have now on hand a lot of Suspensions of Gen Milroy   s to fix  
        up, and unless I hire some one it will take me some time before I can get to work on your accounts. The Office work is much heavier than it used to be     I now have to work pretty much day and night,    the only time I take to myself is Sundays and from half an hour to one hour before going to bed   All the balance of the time, when not sleeping or eating I am hard at work   I hardly  know why the work is so much heavier than it used to be   unless, it is because  the Gen. makes so many bargains that I know nothing about till time for payment comes, that it keeps me very busy to keep track of the funds, and I very much fear I shall lose sight of them altogether       over  
        Whether any body else will ever find them is a question     If you deside to send or go to Washington please let me know    I shall have to hunt up all the  Invoices for 1880  amp; 1881, and where to look for them I hardly know    Perhaps by getting a week   s help I can get at these suspensions in a  week     All well   My wife sends love to Sister Wilbur and yourself   We are now in the boarding house  Truly Yours  JH Fairchild   written sideways in margin   I have no doubt but these suspensions can be removed if I can get time to hunt up the necessary papers
