Camp McClarment 3 miles in the woods April 1st 1862 ) from the river Dear Eliza I thought I would write you a few Lines that I am well and in good Health at pressent thank God and I hope this may find you the Same/ I doo not know why I can not get a letter from you/ Mr. Pease gets letters every few days and I doo not know how it comes that I get non/ Mr. Pease receivd a letter this eavining- eavning and it seemes that you dit not get the things all that I send home in the box Mrs. Pease got, all the things that ware in the bottom up to the 2 peasses of brown paber are yours/ware one pair of new Dubble blankeds with a gun and 2 hatchets and a white handled whip in it and one sincle blanked and one pair of drawers and a sack of coffee in it all yours and the Box I Bought myself I thought Mr. Pease explained it to Mrs Pease in a letter that was in the box/ how the things ware/ Mr Pease will explain it to Mrs. Pease how it was in his next letter for he was sick at that time and not able to be up/ I should have written my name on the paber between the things and then thay would have known all about it/ I sopose you have receivd a letter from me stading what was in the box/ we are still in the woods encampt awaiting orders to move for the next battle at Corrinth which is about 18 miles from us From what we can lern thair is a large forse of rebles thair and we are to fight them thair/we have so near as I can lern about two hunderd thousand men here now and Still more comming evry day and I think we will be enouph for them/ it seemes thay are going to make a strong stand thair/it is thair last chance/ we have not got pait yet and doo not know when we will be pait/ Some thinks we will not be pait before May and then get pait for 4 months/ I wish you would write me how the boys get along and how thay are doing/ I hope I shal not bere of being disobedient to you and I hope thay will be al the help thay can to you/ I can not tell when I shell come home again/ there is no one allowd to leav that is able for duty/ I must close my writing with my Love and best wishis to you all/ your affectionate Husband J.
