Abstract

(7 Willamette Sports L.J. 1 (2009)). The article considers legal issues arising from the National Football League’s “NFL Network,” and that network’s relationship with cable TV providers. It discusses the NFL’s exemption from antitrust law in relation to the sale of pooled rights to broadcasters. It further analyzes the NFL’s contracts with Comcast internet and cable service. The article also discusses the history and current state of the NFL’s litigation with cable companies. It then describes social and economic considerations and external pressures—from consumers, legislators, and commentators—that have played a part in this controversy. It concludes by evaluating possible solutions to the conflicts.
