For Belknap 2nd residents they regularly see fellow resident, Freshman Jenny Morse, curled up with a blanket and pillow asleep outside her door. Why would someone with a relatively comfortable bed choose to sleep on the floor in the hallway? Morse says it is because "if Paige (her roommate) goes to bed early I don't want to keep her up with the lights or anything, so I go out in the hall and if it gets really boring I go to sleep." With a slightly embarassed grin Morse admits the hall isn't the only place she has fallen asleep, "I sleep in a lot of fun places, one time I fell asleep in the bathroom." Behind the Scenes of Publications Due to our deadline, the following two publications have yet to begin production. Enclosed is an editor's note from Accidental Pornography and an acknowlegement for the Chrystalis. Accidental Pornography "Accidental Pornography was actually one of the driving forces behind the formation of the club "Freaks N Geeks". The 'zine' (which is a term meaning 'independently published magazine') was, in essence, a response to the concept of 'university approval' that seems to inundate all things at Willamette. We believe in a student's right to free speech and expression, and we wanted to give a forum for that. So, when we decided to do a zine, we committed ourselves to accept nearly all kinds of submissions, and to keep editing to only the most necessary (in terms of space). Even more, the majority of the editing that is done is done by the writer or artist themselves. We, as editors, try to have as little control over the creative process as we can. That is the founding purpose behind Accidental Pornography. Freedom of voice and expression. It should be said that the zine is published the 'old-fashioned' (or rather old-school punk) way. We use tape and white out and put together this Frankenstein looking master copy. If we were truly hardcore, we would get our own printer, but we have to make some concessions and we used the copy center. Easily, the most rewarding thing is the reaction of students to the publication. Everyone involved with the zine puts a lot of heart and soul into their work (whether it is the pieces that are submitted or the actual production of the zine), so when students respond to the work in a favorable way, it is a feeling that can hardly be measured. When we put out our first issue, we printed 300 copies of it and distributed it around campus. It was an exciting day for us, so I made the rounds to each of the areas at least 5 or 6 times during the day, and in less than 12 hours, all 300 had been read. They were printed with bright yellow covers, and all around campus you could see students carrying copies of the zine. It was incredible. Time and time again, students would come up to me and tell me how much they enjoyed it. I think there is no feeling for an artist greater than that of recognition of work." -Ryan Rogers "In terms of the zine itself, I think I am more partial to the John Steinbeck quote, 'It is not we who take the trip it is the trip that takes us.'" - Ryan Rogers The Chrysalis THE COLLEGIAIN Audra Petrie takes a minute out of her heavey schedule to relax. This Arts A Reviews Editor also bears a huge responsibility in the Collegian staff by giving assignments to the staff and finalizing plans for the weekly editions.
