In the past, Glee has been held in the Chapel of Waller Hall, the First Methodist Church, the Salem Armory, and the old Willamette Gymnasium (today x27;s Playhouse). Since 1975, Cone Fieldhouse has been used to accommodate the ever popular Freshman Glee. Originally, Freshman Glee was a simple presentation of songs on a bare stage. Over the years, elaborate sets, marching and complex formations have become essential parts of this special event. Freshman Glee is Willamette x27;s own tradition of past that will continue in the future. Dedication The overall managers of 1996 are proud to dedicate the 88th annual Freshman Glee to the Honorable Mark O. Hatfield. As a Willamette student, professor, dean and life trustee, the Senator continues to support this institution. His service to Willamette University will never be forgotten and we hope this honor will convey our appreciation to Senator Hatfield. Ode to Willamette The Alma Mater will be performed by Michael Trotter There x27;s an old historic temple rising grandly through the years, Where the oaken hearted fathers drew their strength for strong careers, Down the years, its portals open, Gathered wise ones to its fold. Breathed the spirit of the Westland, Card x27;nal emblem x27;bossed with gold. Dear old school How strong we love thee x27;Round thy mem x27;ries, how we cling Glad some hearts beneath thy shadow, loyal hearts to thee we bring. Old Willamette, how we cherish all thy legends and thy lore, Born upon the calm Pacific, Guides us onward ever more. Spirit of the Golden Westland, breathing through the fathers x27; tears, Tells the story of the temple, bids us hope a x27; down the years, Sing, oh, sing of dear Willamette, Sing while hearts are young and true, Sea to sea the chorus swelling, Dear Old School our W.U. 1996 Freshman Glee Judges Song Presentation Marion Hyman (Hermanek) class of 1942 Rosella Bell Jones - class of 1945 Maxine VanWyngarden (Holt) class of 1942 Marching Performance Jim Hitchman class of 1954 Kristi Jacobs (Mason) class of 1975 Eric Morrison class of 1980 Marching Formation Jean Fries Moore -- class of 1942 Amarylis L. Each category will be judged upon entertainment value and the quality with which the performance is carried out. Each class has the potential to win the 100 points possible. At no point do the judges base their decisions upon the rules of Freshman Glee. Rather, the rules are over-seen by members of the rules-committee. The rules committee consists of one member from each class management team and the chair of the rules committee. Each class predetermines the rule violations of their respective class and deducts the penalty points from the judges x27;totals. The final score ultimately determines who will receive the Glee Banner for 1996.
