Like the shepherds, warriors preoccupied Izquierdo's imagination for years to come; he created many variations of the type throughout the 1950s and 1960s. In warriors and shepherds, he identified contrasting embodiments of responsible action-aggressive and defending on the one hand, protective and nurturing on the other.
