Myra Albert Wiggins (1869-1956)2022-07-202022-07-202003.024.001https://hdl.handle.net/10177/19519Myra Albert was born and raised in Salem, the daughter of John and Mary Holman Albert, both from pioneer Oregon families. Educated first at Willamette University and Mills College, she then studied painting at the Art Students League in New York under William Merritt Chase, George DeForest Brush, and Kenyon Cox, among others. From Chase, in particular, she learned to paint richly textured still-life paintings such as this one-in which physical objects, glowing light, and lush paintwork are fused. Back in Salem, Myra Albert married Frederick Wiggins in 1894. They and their daughter Mildred moved to Toppenish, Washington, in 1907.
