Manuel Izquierdo (1925-2009)Izquierdo, Manuel (1925-2009)2022-07-202022-07-202010.008.006https://hdl.handle.net/10177/19781In Grand Rodeo, the profiled observers are Manuel Izquierdo and his father Ventura, facing one another across an arena that alludes both to Spanish bullfights and American rodeos. Izquierdo also expresses his fascination with women and the Portland art milieu (the observers portrayed on the other side of the wall of the grandstand include such art world figures as Sally Haley, Barbara and Jack McLarty, and Louis Bunce). From opposite sides of the arena, Ventura and Manuel observe one another, hands raised in what could be gestures of farewell. It was at the end of 1978, the year Izquierdo made this print, that Ventura Izquierdo died.Image18"" x 24""PrintWoodcutFor use information see: http://www.willamette.edu/arts/hfma/collections/copyright.htmlGrand Rodeo
