Head with Hat is one of twenty-six sculptures in a variety of media that Manuel Izquierdo completed in 1966-1967 while on sabbatical leave from his teaching position at the Museum Art School. He was supported by a grant from Art Advocates, Inc., a group of patrons who established their organization in response to Izquierdo's suggestion that they purchase advance shares in his artistic production in exchange of artworks completed during his sabbatical year. Five of Izquierdo's Art Advocates works are included in the exhibition here at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art.
