| dc.description | One of many works that Constance Fowler created after retiring to the Oregon coast in 1965, Prologue is an example of her later paintings that concern surface—the flat surface of the painting itself as well as the illusion of the surface of a body of water or a veil of impenetrable mist or fog. The burst of blood red in the lower right corner suggests that, beneath or beyond this particular surface, unseen but deadly drama is unfolding. | |
