Abstract

Description

Baby carriers come in myriad forms and materials across the globe. Northern California and southern Oregon styles are generally made with rigid sticks of willow or hazel and are minimally decorated at the top with shells or beads to interest the child. The baby is wrapped in soft coverings and then secured in the basket with ties. Baskets of different sizes are made for the changing stages of an infant's life. In the last several decades, traditional baby carriers of this kind are making a comeback in many communities.
