Abstract

Description

Presumably created soon after Constance Fowler moved to the Midwest in 1947, Chicago is an abstract evocation of the city’s architecture, avenues, and location on the shores of Lake Michigan. Some of the shapes suggest musical instruments and thus the jazzy modernity of the big city. Chicago is seemingly a complement, and expressively a contrast, to the print entitled Impaled Idea.
