This is an excellent example of Price's mature style with thickly applied paint built up and scraped with a palette knife, boldly geometric forms (in this case, the boats and terrain), the kindling of the grays, greens, yellows with accents of red and pink throughout the composition, and the resulting mood of turbulence tempered by calmness. Price painted this work as a wedding present for his niece, Frances Price Cook. He made and painted the frame for this and several other works in this collection.
