| dc.description | This exquisite figurine represents a young naked woman with a long, graceful body; she is draped with straps that cross her chest and wears a thin hip girdle, indicated by rows of pierced holes with inlaid ivory. Like most wooden statuettes from Egypt, her arms were made separately and attached at the shoulders with tenons. Because her head and feet are missing, it is difficult to determine whether this figurine was meant to stand upright like a servant or fertility figure, or to recline in the pose of a swimming girl, a form that frequently served as the handle of wooden bowls and spoons. Her nudity may suggest an association with procreation, fertility, and rebirth. | |
