Abstract

Description

This model Paiute basketry bottle demonstrates how larger versions of useful objects were ingeniously made to protect precious water resources in the harsh desert environment. Tightly woven, and coated with pinon pitch inside (though this basket is not coated), the baskets were also well designed. The base was pointed so it could be stuck in the sand or soft earth and, because of its broad middle and small hole at the top, the water would not spill out no matter how it fell.
