Description
The World War ll death toll in the Pacific was enormous. United States casualties on Okinawa were listed at 48,000, one fourth of this total representing deaths. The Japanese lost 103,000 of 120,000 men on Okinawa. Fighting began with the American invation of the island on April 1, 1945. The Japanese ended organized resistance on June 21, 1945.
