Red Nude #2 is brushier, more expressionistic, and less 'dapper' than Russo's late paintings of outlined silhouetted figures of nude females, dressed males, men's hats, and umbrellas. Of particular interest in Red Nude #2 is Russo's use of the paint stroke to enliven the entire surface of the painting: the red figure, the startling pink sky, and the blue sea highlighted by the strokes of yellow-green all are equally emphasized. These qualities help make the painting a classic modernist work.
